Leaving my art direction class, dragged me to a heated discussion about the originality of all: our ideas are "original"?
For my part of the debate I argued that, in fact, no, none of our ideas are original, even the ideas of all those people I admire and madness on. I am a student film and yet you might wonder why they think like that even think that will not last long in this industry for thinking like me. I do not mean to imply that it is a bad thing, however, "unoriginality." I think our ideas come from our own experiences and therefore fail to be original from that time.
I'll try to explain my point with one of the most famous and successful films high in history, and personally I loved history and haunted by years: Harry Potter. Memory having read the first book, just short of a few weeks before it became a sensation in the whole world is now. And I fell in love with it immediately. (Fortunately I am a sensitive person and is not so, I spent the night at the bookstore to get the new "I just ordered them online, LOL =)
But still, even then I realized it was not an "original" story. Just think about it, there were plenty of stories about magic before HP. Good vs. evil stories? (Almost 90% of people out there) About orphans with relatives unpleasant? (Cinderella rings bells?) A thought crossed through my mind only, did you know that Daniel Radcliffe has played an orphan three times already?
I drew back, sorry. But the beauty of the HP, and my point in this issue is not originality, is creativity. JK Rowling took all those little details and beautifully woven to create a fresh new world that many of us love and treasure.
So no, unfortunately there is no original ideas. But if we strive to be creative and inventive that it could only hit the jackpot., D
