Color Bottle

While the average person can assume that all red wines are the same, the differences actually extend far beyond the label of the bottle. With more than 50 main varieties of reds available, colors can vary from light red and ruby red deep purple.

There are even some varieties that are almost color black. Of course, the flavors are as varied as the colors and flavors can include fruity flavors with a touch of snuff. For the uninitiated, the best way to develop an appreciation by red wine is to learn more about it.

The color and flavor of red wines is a combination of manufacturing process of the wine and grape variety used. The grapes used to make reds range from deep red to purple to blue and the skins are left in the fermentation. The skins contribute to the varieties of color and, together with grape seed, determine the amount of tannins in the finished product.

The longer you leave the skin in contact with fermenting grapes, the deepest is the color and higher tannin content. Red with the highest content of tannins are considered full-bodied, like Cabernet, while lower tannin content gives body Merlot half or light-bodied Beaujolais. The fruity red wines, which are named for their taste because there is no sweetness, have lower tannin content of all cells.

Simply creating color. The grape skin contains flavonoids, which are well known for its antioxidant properties, and is transmitted from skin during fermentation liquid. As a result, the most complete body of the wine, the amount of flavonoids is much higher.

Four ounces of a large body of red every day helps to lower bad cholesterol, increase good cholesterol and reduce clotting. Flavonoids are also believed to inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells and how to help the formation of nerve cells, which can help prevent the onset of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's.

Some people seem to have the mistaken belief that the only difference between red wines and white is the color, or the difference between types of red is just what is on the label the bottle. Such beliefs do not recognize the subtle variations in color, flavor and aroma that have been perfected by the manufacturers of wine.

In fact, the differences in wines start with the grapes and continue the wine making process. Knowing the subtleties of variations leads to a much greater appreciation of them.
