Day By Day At The Song Fest On Music Row
It's part festival, part music conference, the networking business opportunity and part gathering of old friends held in Nashville, TN every third weekend of June. The live performances, education and Open House at the same time running events. Here is a day by day account of Friday morning and continuing until midnight on Sunday.
Day 1, Friday, June 19, 2009
It started Friday 9:00 a.m. with some professional instruction. Richard Adler, Grammy, Platinum / Gold recording engineer and producer talks about the nitty gritty of being in the business of music. Then Dave Gibson shares some views and play a couple of songs that have worked for him. (Texas Tattoo, big heart of red neck white and blue Mama Do not Let Your Babies Become Cowboys, Queen of Memphis, dad was never the type Cadillac, vessels do not enter, Jukebox In My Mind, Lonely & Gone). Following Dave Webb is Stan, SESAC Legacy Award. "I'm from the country" (and I like that.), And other commercial successes. Stan talks about the reality of becoming a composer long-term career.
After lunch, the knowledge within Steven Sharp success of running a major label talks about "The policy of getting a song heard and cut." Then, the entertainment law expert Bill Whitacre answer your queries on rights copyright, the rules on co-writing and collaboration, publishing, offers artist, digital rights and more. Finally, finishing the afternoon session is the radio host Karen Reynolds, who will speak on "Business and composer performing skills."
Friday afternoon @ 5:30 pm started shooting stages. Beginning in the parking lot curb Music, long, time to start the original tracks do not stop until midnight on Sunday! Are scheduled prominent writer segments interspersed with regular writers. Around 6:30 the writers began to find their place in the mix in the various Video, Web Cast and elsewhere outdoor theme. Day 2, Saturday, June 20, 2009
It's Saturday morning @ 10 am, the writers who have some rest are up and getting first hand experience of the row. The second day of classes instructors Pro starts with a guitar workshop with Dave Isaacs "Driving The Groove ". Next Champion Alina gives some guidelines on" How to Organize a successful night of writers. "Aschmann Lisa explains the concepts behind the book, "Ideas for Composition 1000." Pete & Pat Luboff will you know why "Collaboration is the key to cutting songs." Tirk Wilder rounds and doing things outside Song Reviews for students.
Also at 10 am Saturday Open House begins. Heads will be able Fest launched by participating studios, producers, editors, publicists, consultants, managers, duplicators, and other commercial businesses related to music at or near the line. These companies will have an "open door policy" from 10 am to 6 pm 20th and 21 June. These businesses offer established Music Row tours of their facilities and answer questions about "What role in the business?" Writers are encouraged to drop off and collect samples of each work others.
Around noon, live music begins to fill with new row and the booths are open to traffic. small groups of writers develop, share stories, and each chat. Everyone is quiet and have significant experience with the competition because no, no emphasis talent search the party, to make a more relaxing environment. At some point we present the Life Time Achievement Award at the Festival of Great Master. Last year Tom T. Hall took the honors and presented the keys of Music Row. The steps required to stop at 2 am and head niters too late for the time after opening for Sing Ring see the sun rise. By the end of the second day, the heads were actually Fest scattered from one end of the row to another.
Day 3, Sunday, June 21, 2009
It's Sunday morning at 8 AM and so begins a special Christian music in Segment Curb Music Parking Lot. An emphasis on Christian music related contemporary is pursued until noon.
10 AM, survivors of Friday and Saturday hit back row! Sunday's session of the House Open begins. Fest Heads laden cards, CD's and Goodie bags to take the "Open Door Policy" to 6 PM.
10:30 a.m., on the 3rd of Education Pro starts again and runs until about 6 PM. As things is a guitar workshop by master Denny Sarokin. Then find ways to be "ready for the row" with Barbara Cloyd. After Barb, Bob Dellaposta speak on "How to start and maintain a publishing company." Also critically acclaimed author and composer CJ Watson will discuss all ended. "Finally 15 years of Music Row veteran help Jo Crowe get your things ready for the plug of the publisher of the label and make criticisms song for the band.
At all stages of the noon start to shoot back up, booths are open and everything hums along as usual. Some of the late start nitrate broken and the party continues. Go with the flow, 12 hours more to go.
At 6 PM. If anyone wants to get married at the Festival, this is when they do, for free. Festival offers a Hall of Fame minister to the ceremony. The bride and groom read a poem or play a special tune to each other on stage, a kiss and then head to a reception nearby. Do not worry. I think there will be plenty of live entertainment.
At night the 8 pm start coming to the video webcast and other stages and Southern Fried Fest Heads start gravitating toward the parking lot curb Jam Music we prepare for midnight. Having managed to fill our music, we crave no more. Little elves clear the row of the arts, stage, and the next day as if it never existed.
The following week the Festival are some writers still hanging around the row, following on drivers and consolidate plans for the future. For better or worse, at least you know your way around now.
The Nashville Songwriters Festival is many events in one. ASCAP, BMI and SESAC writers of all genres come together. The publishers, recording studios, producers, capacitors song, managers, and others are in attendance as a broad spectrum of industry, past, present and future will be there getting the feel. Take in whole or in parts the Fiesta and "playing by ear."
Writers are invited to come as they are and find their place in the mix. Everyone who comes to the party will the opportunity to share their original lyrics, song or music. There is no set qualifications required to play and no set registration fee for attend the Festival. Each individual determines how they can contribute to help be part of this musical magic. Many special guests and surprises await but the real featured writer it is.
So step out of cliques and come out with the gang. If you have a talent to contribute, the call goes out. Invite yourself to be a part of musical history of the city. The festival is now accepting sign ups for the season in June 2009. Throw in this years congregation to celebrate the spirit of the composer.
